In search of possibilities for regular offline moments
Do we consume technology or does technology consume us?
For various reasons, many of us find it increasingly difficult to disconnect. With this concept I researched the possibilities of making unplugging more attractive and a socially accepted moment in our daily routines.
Us humans often feel the need for an incentive - is an incentive for disconnection conceivable? What could we gain from these moments?
Living in the moment and being connected in real life - that is what many of us, sometimes unsuccessfully, strive for. There is also those who like to make conscious decisions in life and follow their own values. Both groups have in common that they can benefit from a product which accommodates disconnection and lets the user make a visible statement.
product concept - the offline collection
One important and easily imaginable moment to enjoy real life connection is when having dinner with family or friends. The Offline Collection is a series of products designed to make these moments easier by removing the distraction of mobile devices. It also enables you to make a visible statement by requiring your device in order to turn on.
This is how :
1) place your portable device in the product, this switches the light on
2) the signal blocking lining hampers the visibility of your device...
3) ...and switches it off by blocking all incoming signals
4) you, the user, get to enjoy instant gratification as your mobile device is disabled
